Armor Details

Light Armor: Covering that still lets you move around - protection you can run in. While wearing light armor, you add your Dexterity or Intelligence modifier to your AC. Examples: Robes, thick clothing, or ashigaru armor.
Heavy Armor: Items that provide solid defense, even though you’re a slowpoke. While wearing heavy armor, reduce your speed by 1. Examples: Chainmail or samurai armor.
Shield: Something strapped to your arm that lets you deflect attacks. Wearing a shield takes one hand, and you can’t use that hand for anything else. Examples: Bracers, turtle shell shield, or war fan.

Weapon Details

Light Melee Weapon: This is an agile weapon that rewards a certain level of finesse in melee combat. Examples: A dagger, sickle, club, short sword, or katana.
Heavy Melee Weapon: This is a direct weapon that requires some muscle to use effectively. Examples: A greatclub, warhammer, greatsword, or halberd.
Light Ranged Weapon: This is a swift, mobile weapon that you throw at your enemy or that launches an easily crafted or easily collected projectile at the enemy. These weapons don’t require ammunition, because the game assumes that your character can find or make new projectiles as needed. Examples: A throwing knife, shuriken, or shortbow.
Light Gun: This is a swift, mobile weapon that uses ammunition that you can ‘t easily find or make yourself. Guns require ammunition. Examples: A pistol or matchlock rifle.
Heavy Ranged Weapon: This is a slow but impactful weapon that you throw at your enemy or that launches an easily crafted or easily collected projectile at the enemy. These weapons don’t require ammunition, because the game assumes that your character can find or make new projectiles as needed. Examples: A throwing axe, large rock, or greatbow.
Heavy Gun: This is a heavy, powerful weapon that uses ammunition that you can’t easily find or make yourself. Guns require ammunition. Examples: A musket or portable cannon.
